Depression is not a dirty word.Key Concepts: Depression, Overcome Depression, National Institute of Mental Health, depression symptoms, self talk, psychiatric help, Brandt Reed MFT, Moving Beyond Depression

Depression is not a dirty word. If you’re depressed, you don’t need to hide it. In today’s world, it does not have the stigma attached to it that it had in the past.  Still, many people are embarrassed or ashamed to get the help they need.

But keep the faith. As one wise man said, “Seek and you shall find.” There are answers out there if you look for them.

AN EPIDEMIC MEANS YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Besides, you are not alone. There is an epidemic in our country. At any given time at least 35 million Americans suffer depression, most having a severe case, states the National Institute of Mental Health.  Among that group, 18 million are adults.  Due to a variety of factors depression is also increasing among young people and children. Even many seniors find themselves down for a various reasons including loss and grief, isolation, illness.

Only about 20% of those suffering from depression ever get any professional help.  This means that 80% of the depressed population do not get what they need and continue to struggle through life.

Fortunately, some depression is situational, and the causation factors diminish over time along with the condition.  Unfortunately, for others, depression’s first encounter sets the stage for a mind set that takes on a life of its own. In these people, depression develops a negative belief in themselves that they are worthless, and inadequate.  Their self talk becomes destructive and many of the classic symptoms of depression set in.

Worse news is that some are genetically predisposed for depression and that becomes their experience.  People in this category often require psychiatric help along with med management. The good news, after getting professional help, many find their symptoms lessening.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE SYMPTOMS?

Do you sleep too much and still have no energy?

Do you overeat or eat very little.

Do normal activities drain you?

Do you isolate yourself?

These and other factors are indications of depression.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Be kind to yourself by getting the help you need now, if you are or think you are depressed. This is no time to be brave and tough it out; especially if depression has become emotionally paralyzing. Talk to your doctor about your feelings and get a referral to a counselor.

Life is not a dress rehearsal.  This is your life so start making it count today.

THE NUMBER ONE PROBLEM STOPPING YOU FROM ACHIEVING SUCCESS

Key Concepts: Success, Wrong Target for Success, Who We Become, Personal Development, Mark Fritz, Getting More Done

The target is not success but personal growth.

Everyone would like to achieve success, and many are on the constant search for the shortcut to success.

In fact, all over the Internet you can find people promising you the sun, the moon and the stars of success (and that you can have it fast!).

Many people have invested large sums of money in these promises and haven’t achieved the success they want…but WHY?  The “Number One Problem” for many people in achieving success is that they have the "Wrong Target."  Success is not the right target.

WHAT IS THE RIGHT TARGET?

“WHO WE BECOME” is the right target.  Success is the result we achieve based on who we become.

In fact, “who we become” drives a success that we can be proud of, a success that makes a difference in the world, and a success that drives the legacy we would like to be behind.

Ask any successful person who has achieved long-term success, and they will say that it all started with their own “personal development”.  The more they would grow, the more opportunities would come their way.  The level of success they achieved has been equal to the size of the person they have become.

Again, the target is not success, but “WHO WE BECOME”.

WHAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE IN WHO YOU BECOME?

Charles ''Tremendous'' Jones said “You will be the same person in five as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.”

“WHO WE BECOME” is driven by how we leverage the life experiences of others to grow faster.  We cannot experience life fast enough on our own, so we need to learn from others (the people we meet, the books we read, the video we watch, and the audio we listen to).

Remember, the size of your “personal development actions” (WHO YOU BECOME) drives your “success” you want (WHAT YOU ACHIEVE).
